Program Description:
This one year Department of Cytology Service sponsored program concentrates on diagnostic cytopathology. During this period, the fellow, under the supervision of the attending staff, is engaged in the examination of cytopathologic material submitted to the service. The material consists of approximately 32,500 specimens per year (18,000 gynecologic and 13,000 non-gynecologic).

The program includes participation in the intra-operative cytology consultation service, as well as interaction with the Cytology Service ran School of Cytotechnology.

Fellows are encouraged to participate in research projects with members of the Department and/or in cooperation with clinicians. There is a cytology-based fine needle aspiration service.

    Fellowships are available to individuals who have completed their basic training in pathology either in straight AP or combined AP-CP, with at least 2 years of prior training in an accredited U.S. or Canadian program required.

    All qualified applicants are welcome, but preference will be given to individuals committed to an academic career in pathology.

    There will be an attempt to identify individuals interested in combining two Department of Pathology sponsored fellowships, under the assumption that such combined experience should provide a strong basis for a successful career in academic pathology.

    Therefore, preference for the specialty-oriented and Molecular Pathology fellowships will be given to individuals who have completed the Oncologic Pathology fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering or who have an analogous experience in a similar institution.
