* If a program selects a fellow outside of the Match without obtaining prior approval, that program will be subject to the following sanctions:
o In the annual meeting scheduled approximately sixteen months after the violation (e.g., the violation occurs October 2002; affected meeting is January-February 2003), no faculty member or fellow from the offending program may present a paper (oral or poster), serve as a faculty member or judge for a scientific session, or serve as an abstract reviewer.
o If one of the faculty members of the offending program is a member or officer of the Society's Board of Directors, he or she shall be dismissed from the Board.
o The name of the offending program will be published on the Society's web site.
o If a repeat offence occurs within five (5) years, the above-named sanctions will be imposed for a period of three (3) years.
* Programs may request an exemption from the Match in special circumstances. Requests should be sent to the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer of the Society, in care of Pat Stahr's office in Washington, D.C., no latter than September 1 of the year of the Match. The request will be reviewed by three (3) members of the Board of Directors of the Society (immediate Past President, Secretary-Treasurer, and Assistant Secretary-Treasurer). Programs will be notified of the Board's decision by October 1.
* In some instances, a program may not fill its position during the Match and then have the opportunity to recruit an individual who belatedly has decided to apply for fellowship training. In that circumstance, both the program and the applicant should notify the Assistant Secretary-Treasurer of the Board in writing of their intent.
