Program Description:

The American Society for Microbiology International Professorship Program is intended to provide microbiological expertise and resources to faculty and students throughout the world.

The program enables an institution of higher learning the resources to bring an ASM member who is scientifically recognized in his/her area to teach a hands-on, highly interactive short course on a single topic in the microbiological sciences. The program facilitates international collaborations.

This year, ASM is offering one Professorship to ASM members in North America to travel to an institution in Bolivia, Colombia, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, or Peru to deliver a course in the field of bacterial resistance to antimicrobials. The application must be made jointly between a hosting institution and an ASM member.

• Research Allowance Detail:    Up to 65% of the award may be utilized to defray travel expenses for the professor and co-professor, if required. An allowance of up to $300 per visit may be used by the visiting professor to defray expenses incurred in reciprocating hospitality or for other contingencies. Up to 35% of the award may be used for supplies and equipment that are/is not available at the host institution, or for a local assistant, if required. No amount of the award may be used for housing and board by either the visiting professor or co-professor at the host institution. Funds from ASM must be matched by the hosting institution. Matching funds provided by the host institution may be "in kind" contributions, such as housing and board for the visiting professor or co-professor, administrative support, or supplies. Preference will be given to applicants who will be able to make maximal use of the course, as demonstrated by the applicability of the course's contents to existing programs at the institution.
