Program Information

Program Name:
Internships in Computational Modeling at the Terascale (ICMT)
Program URL:
http://internships.llnl.gov/icmt/
Program Year:
2006
Program Description:
The purpose of Internships in Computational Modeling at the Terascale (ICMT) is to prepare graduate and advanced undergraduate students for employment as computational scientists. Summer students will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing contributions to the Advanced Simulation Computing (ASCI) code research and development. ICMT will provide summer students with "hands-on" experience in the Lab environment and it will encourage and equip students to develop backgrounds in key areas of terascale simulation. This project will give students experience using Massively Parallel Processing (MPP) systems; mentoring from expert computational scientists; and specialized enrichment instruction in computational mathematics and scientific visualization techniques. The mentors and instructors are Livermore Computing staff, special guests, and prominent Institute for Terascale Simulation (ITS) scientists. This instruction includes topics not generally available in university curricula, centered on interdisciplinary approaches (mathematics/computer science/engineering) necessary to work with terascale parallel processing machines
Program Restrictions:
You must be an advanced undergraduate or a graduate student and in good standing at an academic institution. A GPA of 3.3 minimum (out of 4.0) within major and overall is required - in both undergraduate and graduate program and prefered is 3.5+ (Unofficial transcripts & letters of reference will be required when applying). Grades below a C and any withdrawals will require explanations.

US citizenship required (foreign nationals or permanent residency does not meet the US citizenship requirements).
