Program Information
Program Name:
Summer Research REU: Robotics and Biology
Program URL:
http://www.lehigh.edu/~inolfact/
Program Year:
2005
Program Description:
The REU site is a unique interdisciplinary program designed to bridge engineering and biology. It is intended for rising sophomores and will be limited to 10 students. The course will convey basic concepts in biology and engineering through lectures, labs and demonstrations. Students will then utilize these concepts to contract robots that navigate their environment using a chemical sensor designed by NASA. While the robot is the primary goal the second goal is to develop well-rounded well-educated students who are prepared for upper level courses in science and engineering and ultimately the scientific work force. Therefore scientific information will be supplemented with workshops on study habits, professional careers in science and engineering and leadership. At the close of the program students will be encouraged to form a network though email a periodic newsletter and follow-up interviews. Several of the most talented students will be asked to return and mentor the next year's class. Students will be introduced to the program and faculty at Lehigh through lectures and tours and will be encouraged to apply to Lehigh.
