Program Information
Program Name:
DoD Autism Concept Awards
Program URL:
http://cdmrp.army.mil/funding/arp.htm
Type of Scientists Funded:
PhD Dissertation Student, Medical Student, MD/PhD Student, Initial PhD Postdoc, Advanced PhD Postdoc, Initial MD Postdoc, Advanced MD Postdoc, Junior Faculty, Senior Scientist/Faculty
Program Description:
The ARP Concept Awards support the exploration of a highly innovative new concept or untested theory that addresses an important problem relevant to ASD. The Concept Award is not intended to support a logical progression of an already established research project but, instead, allows Principal Investigators (PIs) the opportunity to pursue serendipitous observations. This award mechanism supports high-risk studies that have the potential to reveal entirely new avenues for investigation. Presentation of preliminary data is not consistent with the intent of this award mechanism and therefore is not allowed. Areas of interest include: 1) Co-morbidity: (e.g., manifestations such as disorders [gastrointestinal, sleep, behavioral, speech/language], psychiatric, seizures, immune dysfunction, motor and sensory deficits, metabolic dysfunction, and effects of ASD on intellectual ability, and 2) Predictors for Treatment Outcomes: Identification of biomarkers, clinical characteristics, or other phenotypic markers that predict outcomes of a treatment, or populations that will or will not respond to a treatment (traditional or complementary and alternative). Clinical trials are NOT allowed under this award mechanism. The proposal is double blinded to scientific peer review panel members as to the identity of the P.I. and also the name of the institution.
